FV: Why did you join PRIDE?
Tabbi: I decided to become a part
of PRIDE to show my peers and myself that it's possible and even
acceptable to have fun and "be myself" without the use
of drugs, alcohol, or violence.
FV: Why is being a part of PRIDE
important to you as a teenager and a high school student?
Tabbi: As a senior in high school, I
am faced daily with those who question the stand I've decided to
take. Some days, it's not easy to stick to my convictions. |
 |
Those are the days I have to push myself to remember why I'm a part
of the team in the first place. I once led a life where alcohol,
drug abuse, and violence ruled my life and the lives of my family. Having
seen what stems from it, deciding to be drug, alcohol, and violence
free has been the smartest and most valuable decision of my life.
FV: Why, specifically is it important
to educate other teens and parents about marijuana/drug prevention
issues?
Tabbi: I don't think people realize
how rampant maijuana runs through the streets of America. The public
seems to have misconceptions about the actual effects it has not
only physically, but also emotionally and mentally. Therefore, it
is our job to lead the public to the realization and the importance
of drug prevention issues by educalting them.
FV: What is your anti-drug? Besides
being a part of PRIDE, what do you enjoy doing in your free-time?
Tabbi: My "anit-drug"
would not only be my faith, but also the support and respect from
my friends. It's important to surround yoursef with people who either
share the same values or respect the decisions you've made. I enjoy
doing "crazy" things with my friends- legal of course!
We find ways to have fun, even when there seems like there's "nothing
to do" , without using any type of substance.
FV: Is there anything else you
would like to tell the teens out there reading this?
Tabbi: Simply that not EVERYONE
is drinking and getting high! And though it may seem that way, be
confident and strong in your morals, values, and decisions. Once
you've made these decisions- stick to them, even through there are
tempations. You'll come out stronger and on top. Then you can look
up to yourself and be proud! |
